The examination fee is due at the latest by the registration deadline for the respective level. The course fee for the exam preparation course for the respective level is due at the latest, at the start of the course.

If you cannot take the exam due to health reasons, the examination fee will be reimbursed, minus a € 80.00 cancellation fee, upon presentation of a doctor’s note.

Entry requirements for the University of Cologne:

For the application or admission to a bachelors or state examination, proof of C1 German language skills is required. A telc certificate serves as recognized evidence and is ideal for enrollment. For subjects that require a very high level of language skills such as law, medicine, or psychology, it is advisable to obtain a C2 certificate.

The following certificates are recognized as replacements for DSH-2 at the University of Cologne:

  • German language test for university entrance (DSH-2 or DSH-3)*
  • TestDaF (German as a Foreign Language) with level 4 in all four parts of the exam
  • Goethe Certificate C2
  • telc German C1 Hochschule
  • telc German C2

* DSH exams cannot be taken on their own at the University of Cologne because you can only register for the DSH courses if you have already been admitted to the degree program.

Should I sign up for an exam preparation course? When will the exam take place?

The results of the telc exams showed that 94.40% of all students who attended a preparatory course in our school passed. 56.76% passed who did not attend an exam preparation course. The preparation for the telc exam is a part of our intensive courses. You don’t need an extra course and you save money. The sections of the telc exam are reading comprehension, listening comprehension, fill-in-the-blank, written communication, and an oral examination. How long does the exam take and how is it structured?

The exam consists of a written and an oral part. The written part includes reading comprehension, listening comprehension, and written communication. This part takes about 3.5 hours with a break of 20 minutes. The oral part usually takes place as a group examination with 2-3 other participants. The oral examination takes about 15-20 minutes. You will also have 20 minutes to prepare for the oral exam.

What do I have to bring to the exam?

Your passport or ID. You will also need a pencil, sharpener, and eraser. The exam may only be written in pencil. Ballpoint pens or anything similar are prohibited.

How often can I retake the exam?

You can retake the exam as often as you like.

Are there individual exam appointments?

You are welcome to send us your preferred date for a separate telc exam. We will then check whether we have the minimum number of participants for an unscheduled test and whether we can carry out the test on your desired date or we will make you a separate offer for you to take the exam. In urgent cases, we are happy to have a private exam designed just for you.

What is the minimum number of participants?

A minimum of 3 participants is required for the telc exam preparation course and also for the telc exam.

How long does it take to get the result?

You will receive the exam result and the certificate by email about 5-6 weeks after the test. The exam is corrected at the telc Institute in Frankfurt, so that the Sprachschule Aktiv Köln has no influence on the grading time and assumes no liability.

Are there any additional costs?

The telc exam fees include all costs for you, except for an additional registration fee of € 15.
